Flower for Yoga Behind Bars

Last week, I had the honor of doing flowers for a fundraising event for the incredible non-profit Yoga Behind Bars. Check them out: they do amazing work bringing yoga and meditation to prison inmates, and if you are able, please donate!!!

As it was dark when I finished the flowers, I wasn't able to take any photos before delivering them. This is the one shot I took on-site that isn't super blurry- the colors are off due to the gorgeous candlelight filling the room, so you will just have to imagine the colors: bright sunset orange dahlias, coppery amaranth, dark eggplant ninebark foliage, pops of butter yellow, seasonal grasses and foliage in varying shades of green and autumn gold.........

Autumn Palette

These are the first mums I have used this year, and they really make me feel that fall has arrived.

I grew up in rural New England, (aka The Land of Many Farmstands). I remember one in particular, an old wagon that was filled with potted mums at this time of year. Oranges, reds, yellows, purples... those saturated, yet slightly subdued colors that mums seem to have mastered..... yes, mums make me think of autumn, and of my mum :)

And then there are the maple leaves- it seems I can't make anything these days without adding maple leaves of one kind or another...

I'm particularly fond of the little ones- these came from a Coral Bark Maple tree.

It is crazy how much color is here now- everywhere I look the trees are bursting into full display, and as the frost has yet to arrive, all the Dahlias, Sunflowers and Zinnias of summer are still blooming. It's hard to believe how much the frost will change things... for now I will just enjoy this amazing time of year, with color pouring out from every single corner of Seattle...

More arrangements from the market

Here are a few other centerpiece examples I made for the Washington CASH Fall Market. This one is inside an acorn squash:

This one is in a green tomato (we have SO MANY of these from this year, had to think of something to do with them!) Turns out they make very sweet little vases:

And finally, a pretty little number featuring French Anemone, Heather, Hydrangea, Snowberry, and Heptacodium:

Lastly, a shot of the whole table!

'Twas fun!

I could melt into this flower...

I have been waiting to get my hands on those Cafe au Lait Dahlias... holy cow, they are amazing. I made a few sample centerpiece examples with them for a Holiday Market today, and at least 10 people didn't believe they were real!

Well ok, I guess the Quicksand Roses are pretty nice too.....

I love the amazing colors of fall!!!

Fall Festival Marketplace!

Botanique will be set up at the Washington C.A.S.H. Fall Festival Marketplace this Sunday, October 16th! We will be selling small arrangements and hand-tied bouquets, and also taking pre-orders for holiday centerpieces. The flowers are so gorgeous right now, beautiful shades of burnt orange, cream, burgundy, toasty amber, and more. Come say hello and check out autumn's incredible bounty!
